Three Lady Eagles Named to All-SAC Teams
Nov. 13, 2008
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Carson-Newman volleyball team was rewarded Thursday for its second place finish in the conference regular season, as three Lady Eagles were named to the All-South Atlantic Conference teams.
Junior Katie Troyer (Plain City, Ohio) took first-team honors in the middle after averaging 2.49 kills per game, and hitting at a .332 clip, which led the team. She also led the team with 119 blocks, including 30 solos.
Senior Kelsey Fleck (Celina, Ohio) and sophomore Carly Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) were each named the second team after impressive seasons.
Fleck, an outside hitter, finished the season with a 2.58 kills per game average, amassing 304 total kills. The preseason All-SAC selection is one of five Lady Eagles seniors that keyed C-N's turnaround from a seventh place finish in the SAC last season, to second this year and a likely NCAA Tournament berth.
Mozgai earned second team honors after hitting most of the season opposite of Fleck. She led the team in kills per game, 2.76, and total kills, 372. She also had 47 service aces, which also led the Lady Eagles.
The Greensboro, N.C. native served an NCAA-record 17 consecutive times in a win against West Vorginia Wesleyan in September.
Second-seeded Carson-Newman (23-13, 11-5 SAC) competes this afternoon at Mars Hill College in the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament against seventh-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne.
