Lady Eagles Rally for 3-1 Conference Win Over Lenoir-Rhyne

JEFFERSON CITY - The Lady Eagles fought through a first set loss to win the match against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22). The conference win moves the Lady Eagles to a 2-1 record and the Bears fall to 0-2 in the SAC. Overall Carson-Newman holds a 13-10 record and Lenoir-Rhyne sits at 7-11.
"We are excited to get the home conference win against a quality opponent," said Head Coach Shannon Mincey, "The girls really stepped up tonight."
The Bears were led by freshman Brooke Christenbury who put up three kills to lead L-R to the first set win. She was supported by sophomore setter Hannah Stewart who tallied six assists in the first set. Overall, freshman Lindsey Cantu led the Bears with nine kills and six digs.
Carson-Newman rallied back during the following three sets to ensure the win over the Bears. The Lady Eagles were led by junior Jessica Schachleiter (Cincinnati, OH) and sophomore Carly Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) with 14 and 11 kills respectively. CN added points to the board with two aces from Schachleiter, junior Stephanie Cutter (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and senior Allyson Corhn (Hendersonville, N.C).
"Our chemistry was really good tonight," added Mincey, "I thought that our serves confirmed the win for us."
The Lady Eagles will return to action Saturday, September 27 at 2 p.m. against conference rival Catawba College.
