Carson-Newman Splits Friday Matches

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Carson-Newman volleyball team split matches Friday in day one of the 2008 Chatham Orthopedics Volleyball Classic at Armstrong Atlantic State University. The split puts the Lady Eagles 6-5 on the season.
In the first match-up of the day, Carson-Newman picked up a five-game, 3-2 win over Rollins College 14-25, 25-19, 25-22, 18-25, 15-13. Kelsey Fleck led the way for the Lady Eagles with 17 kills, while Carly Mozgai added 13 kills for the Eagles. Rollins was led by Nikki Hartman's 16 kills, Stephanie Nichols' 15 kills and Phoebe Corder's 30 digs.
In their second match of the day, the Saint Leo Lions swept Carson-Newman in three sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-20) behind setter Michelle Nogueras' all-around effort of seven kills, 23 assists and 11 digs. Carson-Newman's Carly Mozgai hit .417 with 11 kills, while Kelsey Fleck added 10 kills and 11 digs.
Play concludes in the Classic on Saturday with another eight matches, with Carson-Newman taking the courts against host Armstrong Atlantic State University at 10:00 a.m. and against Florida Tech at 3:00 p.m.
