Carson-Newman Splits 1-1 in Saturday Matches

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Carson-Newman volleyball team split matches today in the final day of the 2008 Chatham Orthopedics Volleyball Classic at Armstrong Atlantic State University. The 1-1 split puts the Lady Eagles 7-6 on the season.
In the first match of the day, Carson-Newman defeated host Armstrong Atlantic State University in four sets (19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-23). Carly Mozgai led a trio of Carson-Newman players in double digit kills with 14, to go with 13 digs, while Jessica Schachleiter added 11 and Katie Troyer tallied 10. The Pirates were led by Torrie Bevolo and Brendyce Budd, who each tallied 13 kills, and Marina Marinova's 39 assists. In their second match, Carson-Newman fell to Florida Tech in four sets (25-18, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22).
The Lady Eagles return to action at home on Tuesday, September 16, in their conference opener against Brevard. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. in Holt Fieldhouse.
