Carson-Newman Listed in Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - The Carson-Newman College volleyball team is listed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Rankings to conclude the regular season. The Lady Eagles (23-13, 11-5 SAC) join five other South Atlantic Conference teams ranked in the region's top ten.
The Lady Eagles jumped from the 8th spot to 4th after two impressive weeks of play, winning 3-for-4 conference matches. Carson-Newman posted two road wins over in-state rivals Tusculum and Lincoln Memorial. The Lady Eagles then returned home to finish out the regular season, falling to Wingate on Friday night, but then swept Newberry on Saturday. The win over Newberry clinched a second place finish for the Lady Eagles in the conference.
Wingate remained in the top spot of the poll to conclude the regular season. Armstrong Atlantic and Catawba switched places to finish second and third respectively. Carson-Newman jumped to fourth, followed by Lander, Francis Marion, Pfeiffer, Tusculum, Lincoln Memorial and Newberry.
Eight teams from each NCAA region will advance to the 64-team NCAA Division II Tournament. The South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas will each send an automatic bid to the Southeast Regional concluding conference tournaments. Five at-large bids will be up for grabs to the NCAA postseason.
Carson-Newman will travel to Mars Hill tonight to begin SAC Tournament play. The 2nd-seeded Lady Eagles will face 7th-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne tonight at 5 p.m.
