Carson-Newman Defeats Tusculum, 3-1

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Sophomore Carly Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) posted 16 kills and a .467 hitting percentage to lead the Carson-Newman volleyball team to a 3-1 win over host Tusculum College Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action.
The Lady Eagles (21-12, 9-4 SAC) won the match by scores of 25-27, 25-17, 25-20, 25-23 and takes over sole possession of second place in the league standings. C-N also avenges last month's loss to the Pioneers (20-8, 8-5 SAC) evening the season series.
C-N junior Katie Troyer (Plain City, Ohio) added 11 kills, while junior Stephanie Cutter (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and senior Allyson Corhn (Hendersonville, N.C.) dished out 32 and 22 assists, respectively. Senior Salem Stepp (Morristown, Tenn.) led the Lady Eagles' defensive efforts with a match-high 22 digs.
Tusculum's Katie Luebke accounted for a match-high 18 digs, while Gina Coffaro and Carly Swisher each finished with 11 kills. Coffaro completed her double-double with 15 digs to go along with three blocks. Peyton Colclough tallied 43 assists and nine digs in the loss.
Tusculum returns to action on Wednesday when the Pioneers travel to Brevard for a 7 p.m. match. Carson-Newman will be at Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
