Carson-Newman Hosts October Volleyball Tournament
Friday, October 10: Brittany Black - Clark Atlanta University
Flagler College 3 - USC Aiken 0
Flagler College swept the University of South Carolina-Aiken, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-22). The win puts Flagler College 1-0 in tournament, while dropping USC Aiken to 0-1. Flagler College was led by junior Justine Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) with 14 kills, while sophomore Rebecca Royal added 26 assists and 2.5 blocks. Also adding to the Saints' winning effort was sophomore Meg Weathersby (12 digs) and freshman Olivia Snipes (4 aces).
Carson-Newman 3 - King College 1
The Carson-Newman women's volleyball team defeated King College 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 25-20). The Lady Eagles were led by senior Kelsey Fleck (Celina, Ohio) and junior Katie Troyer (Plain City, Ohio) with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Also adding to C-N's winning efforts was senior Allyson Corhn (24 assists), sophomore Carly Mozgai (3 aces), and senior Haley Bush (8 digs). King College was led by freshman Ashley Pittman (Norris, Tenn.) with 11 kills. Junior Daria Wilson (21 digs), senior Jennifer Kandt (21 assists), sophomore Morgan Machen (2 aces) and junior Whitney Turner (9 blocks) also added to the Tornados' effort. Carson-Newman moves to 14-11 on the season and 1-0 in the tournament, while King drops to 0-1 in tournament play.
Carson-Newman 3 - North Greenville 0
The Carson-Newman women's volleyball team swept North Greenville University 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-20). The Lady Eagles were led by junior Jessica Schachleiter (Cincinnati, Ohio) with nine kills. Also adding to the C-N's winning effort was sophomore Lara McDonald (23 assists) and junior Caitlin Schlegel (3 aces). North Greenville was led by sophomore Charlotte Swain (Woodruff, S.C.) and freshman Brittany Rivera (Greenville, S.C.) with seven kills each. Junior Gabby McKinley (Asheville, N.C.) added 13 assists to the Crusaders' effort. Carson-Newman moves to 14-11 on the season and 2-0 in the tournament, while North Greenville drops to 0-1 in tournament play.
Montevallo 3 - Lander 1
The University of Montevallo defeated Lander University, 3-1 (25-21, 25-13, 16-25, 26-24). The win puts Montevallo 1-0 in tournament, while dropping Lander to 0-1. Leading the way for the University of Montevallo Falcons was junior Katie Johnson (Alabaster, Ala.) with 18 kills, while senior Monika Tortorici (Birmingham, Ala.) added nine blocks and two aces. Senior Lauren Tortorici (22 digs), freshman Anna Garrison (23 assists) and sophomore Kara Zawisza (2 aces) also contributed to the win. Lander was led by senior Kay Stewart (St. Louis, Mo.) with 12 kills, 4 solo blocks and 3 block assists, while senior Marina Camps (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) added 22 digs and three aces. Also contributing to the Bearcats' cause was senior Kerri Sorenson (22 digs), sophomore Candace LaRocca (21 assists) and freshmen Abby Focht (15 assists).

King 3 - Lander 1
The King College Tornados defeated the Lander University Bearcats in four sets today 25-22, 25-20, 16-25, 25-23. King College was led by sophomore Rachel Harding (Abingdon, Va.) with 13 kills, while junior Daria Wilson (Lebanon, Tenn.) added 24 digs and 2 aces. Also adding to the Tornados' winning effort was senior Jennifer Kandt (24 assists) and junior Whitney Turner (7 blocks). Leading the way for the Bearcats was freshman Magi Nottingham, senior Kay Stewart and junior Ashley Ferry with 10 kills each. Senior Kerri Sorenson added 22 digs and two aces, with senior Marina Camps (21 digs), sophomore Candace LaRocca (18 assists), freshman Kirsten Stewart (12 assists) and junior Kendall Eayrs (3 solo blocks, 5 block assists) also contributing to the Lander cause. King College now moves to 1-1 in tournament play, while Lander drops to 0-2.
USC-Aiken 3 - Clark Atlanta 0
The University of South Carolina-Aiken swept Clark Atlanta in three sets. Senior Stefanie Durham (Easley, S.C.) led the way for USC-Aiken with 15 kills, while senior Danielle Spice (Champaign, Ill.) added 17 digs and an ace. Also contributing to the Lady Pacers' win was junior Lauren Cedeno (20 assists), junior Whitney Tabbert (an ace) and freshman Jessica Loper (5 blocks). Leading the way for Clark-Atlanta was junior LaTisha Hunley (Rialto, Cali.) with nine kills. Other contributors for the Lady Panthers included senior Angelica Porter (13 digs), junior Brittany Black (20 assists) and senior Maegan Thompkins (3 blocks). With the win, USC-Aiken moves to 1-1, while Clark Atlanta drops 0-1 in tournament play.

Sophomore Rachel Harding (15 digs) and junior Whitney Turner (5 blocks) also contributed to the Tornados win. Clark Atlanta was led by senior Angelica Porter (Douglasville, Ga.) with nine kills and 14 digs. Also adding to the Lady Panthers' cause was junior Brittany Black (17 assists), junior Lachelle Sutphen (4 aces), senior Maegan Thompkins (2 blocks) and junior Shakira McCall (2 blocks). With the win, King finishes the tournament 2-1, with Clark Atlanta dropping to 0-2.

Flagler College swept North Greenville University in three sets (25-18, 25-11, 25-16). Flagler College improves to 2-0 in tournament play, while North Greenville drops to 0-2. Flagler was led by senior Leah Melton (St. Augustine, Fla.) with 8 kills and 2 blocks, while sophomore Rebecca Royal (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) added 19 assists and 2 blocks. Also adding to the Falcons' effort was junior Katie Beale (Stuart, Fla.) with 16 digs and freshman Olivia Snipes (Easley, S.C.) with 2 aces. North Greenville was led by freshman Kaitlin Pierce (Winston-Salem, N.C.) with four kills and three blocks. Also adding to the Crusaders' effort was sophomore Melissa Ragsdale (14 digs), junior Gabby McKinley (16 assists) and freshman Kindal Farver (2 aces).

The Carson-Newman women's volleyball team defeated the Lander University Bearcats 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 16-25, 26-24). The Lady Eagles were led by senior Kelsey Fleck (Celina, Ohio) with 16 kills, while junior Jessica Schachleiter (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Carly Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) added 12 and 10 kills respectively. Also adding to the Lady Eagles' effort was junior Stephanie Cutter (27 assists), senior Allyson Corhn (25 assists) and senior Haley Bush (22 digs). Lander was led by senior Marina Camps (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) with 20 digs and two aces, while senior Kerri Sorenson (Maple Grove, Minn.) added 16 kills. Also adding to the Bearcats' effort was sophomore Candace LaRocca with 33 assists and senior Kay Stewart with three solo blocks and a block assist. With the win, Carson-Newman finish the tournament undefeated, while Lander finished 0-3 in tournament play.
Montevallo 3 - USC-Aiken 0
The University of Montevallo swept the University of South Carolina-Aiken in three sets. Montevallo was led by freshman Anna Garrison (LaVergne, Tenn.) with 16 digs and 21 assists, while junior Katy Hendrick (DePere, Wis.) and senior Monika Tortorici (Birmingham, Ala.) added 12 and 11 kills respectively. Other noteworthy performances for the Falcons included senior Lauren Tortorici (14 digs), sophomore Kara Zawisza (14 digs), junior Joy Peschmen (20 assists) and junior Carson Anderson (5 blocks). USC-Aiken was led by senior Stefanie Durham (Easley, S.C.) with 11 kills, while junior Whitney Tabbert (Stewardson, Ill.) added 17 assists and two aces. Also adding to the Lady Pacers' cause was senior Danielle Spice (16 digs) and freshman Chelsey Kight (5 blocks). The win puts the University of Montevallo 2-0 in tournament play, while the loss drops USC-Aiken to 2-1 to finish out the tournament.

The University of Montevallo swept North Greenville University in three sets (25-16, 25-13, 25-14). Leading the way for Montevallo was senior Lauren Tortorici (Birmingham, Ala.) with eight kills and three aces, while junior Katy Hendrick (DePere, Wis.) and junior Carson Anderson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) added 8 kills apiece. Also contributing to the win for the Lady Falcons was sophomore Kara Zawisza (19 digs), junior Joy Peschman (19 assists), freshman Anna Garrison (17 assists) and senior Monika Tortorici. North Greenville was led by freshman Brittany Rivera (Greenville, S.C.) with seven kills and three blocks. Adding to the Crusaders' cause was senior Amanda Bouchillon (15 digs) and junior Gabby McKinley (17 assists). With the win, Montevallo finishes the tournament 3-0, while North Greenville finishes tournament play 0-3.

Flagler College posted a three-game sweep Clark Atlanta University (25-14, 25-9, 25-17). With the win, Flagler College finishes the tournament 3-0, while the loss gives Clark Atlanta an 0-3 finish. Flagler College was led by sophomore Meg Weathersby (Maitland, Fla.) with seven kills and ten digs, with junior Justine Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) adding seven kills and four aces. Also contributing to the Lady Falcons' cause was sophomore Rebecca Royal (15 assists), freshman Olivia Snipes (15 assists) and senior Leah Melton (solo block, 4 block assists). Leading the way for Clark Atlanta was junior Brittany Black (San Dimas, Cali.) with 13 assists and an ace, while junior LaTisha Hunley (Rialto, Cali.) added five kills. Senior Rachel Williams (10 digs), senior Angelica Porter (ace), senior Maegan Thompkins (2 blocks) and junior Shakira McCall (2 blocks) also added to the Lady Panthers' efforts.
