Carson-Newman Sweeps Saturday Matches
"Lees-McCrae did an excellent job attacking the ball today. I was pleased to come out with a 4 game victory," added Head Coach Shannon Mincey, "Jessica Brady served 20 balls during the match. We were pleased having that many runs of points during those rotations. Our setters did a great job mixing up the offense. Our intention is to stay focused for one more match against West Virginia Wesleyan today."
Leading the Lady Eagles to victory was Jessica Schachleiter (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 11 kills and 1 block. Also adding to the C-N scoreboard was Jessica Brady with 6 kills and 6 aces. Stephanie Cutter (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) brought up the Lady Eagle defense with 9 digs.
Lees-McRae was led by Natalie Burns with 8 kills and 3 blocks. Kell Bogdan added 10 digs to the Bobcats fight and Trisha Reese brought 18 assists and 2 aces. Standout Megan Epperson contributed 7 kills, 6 blocks, and 2 aces during the match.
In the second match of the day, Carson-Newman swept West Virginia Wesleyan in three sets. During the first set C-N battled with West Virginia Wesleyan for a 25-12 win and repeated the score in the second. In the third and final set, the Lady Eagles ended the day with a 25-6 victory over the Lady Bobcats.
Carly Mozgai set a new school record for number of consecutive serves (17) in a set and led the Lady Eagles with six kills and six aces. Also contributing to the win was Katie Troyer (15 kills and 5 blocks), Kelsey Fleck (5 kills and 3 blocks) and Jessica Schachleiter (6 kills).
West Virginia Wesleyan was led by Blake Saumell ith 6 kills and 3 digs. Also contributing to the Bobcats' effort was Hayley Barhorst (10 assists), Sarah Burton (6 digs) and Maria Broslawsky (3 blocks).
The Lady Eagles take on their next challenge during the Limestone College Tournament which begins on Friday, September 5 at 3 p.m. in Gaffney, S.C. Carson-Newman will take on Anderson University and Limestone College on Friday at 3 and 7 p.m., as well as Lander and Mount Olive on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
