Carson-Newman Defeats Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-1
The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, holding off the Lady Eagles in the first set, 25-21. In the second set, Carson-Newman found their momentum and jumped out to an early 12-6 lead. The Lady Eagles went on to win the set, 25-16. Carson-Newman kept that momentum in their favor, going on to pick up the third and fourth sets 25-20 and 25-21 respectively.
Carson-Newman was led by senior Kelsey Fleck (Celina, Ohio) with 15 kills, two blocks and a team-high .281 hitting percentage. Sophomore Carly Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) and junior Caitlin Schlegel (Anacortes, Wash.) added to the attacking efforts with ten and eight kills respectively. Senior setter Allyson Corhn (Hendersonville, N.C.) had 27 assists and five digs, while junior Jessica Schachleiter (Cincinatti, Ohio) and senior Haley Bush (Spartanburg, S.C.) racked up 16 digs.
Leading the way for the Lenoir-Rhyne was senior Katie Novacek (Raleigh, N.C.) with 11 kills and four blocks, while junior Kassi Henry (Denver, N.C.) added 10 kills. Sophomore Hannah Stewart (Statesville, N.C.) had 34 assists and junior Elizabeth Flattery (Sparta, N.C.) tallied 15 digs.
The Lady Eagles will now face Lincoln Memorial in a semi-final match at 3:30 p.m.
