Carson-Newman Sweeps Lincoln Memorial, 3-0
Nov. 4, 2008
HARROGATE, Tenn. - Despite a late first set charge, the Lady Railsplitter volleyball team fell short of its quest to knock off the Lady Eagles of Carson-Newman College in their final meeting of the regular season on Tuesday night. LMU fell in three sets to the Lady Eagles 25-21, 25-13 and 25-18 to move to 18-11 on the year and 6-8 in South Atlantic Conference play.
The victory puts Carson-Newman in a solid second place in the league standing with a 10-4 conference record and a 22-12 overall mark going into their final matches of the regular season this weekend against Wingate University and Newberry College which are both in Jefferson City.
The Lady Eagles Jessica Schachleiter led all players in the kills category Tuesday night with nine kills, while teammate Stephanie Cutter handed out a game-high 19 assists and Allyson Corhn had 14. The LMU offensive attack was carried by Amanda Horenkamp (Murfreesboro, TN) who finished the night with eight kills that brings her career total to 1000, only two matches shy of three complete seasons. Lady Railsplitter setter Lauren Kiwacka (Tipp City, OH) also contributed 16 assists.
Defensively, Carson-Newman's Salem Stepp was nearly a superhero recording a game-high 27 digs on the evening, as teammate Jessica Schachleiter added 15.
