Carson-Newman Hosts Annual Labor Day Tournament
Aug. 28, 2008
JEFFERSON CITY - The Carson-Newman volleyball team will open the 2008 season this weekend when it hosts the annual C-N Labor Day Tournament at Holt Fieldhouse.
"It is great to open the season by hosting a tournament on our own campus," said C-N head coach Shannon Mincey, who is beginning her fifth season at the helm of the Lady Eagles.
"It gives our parents and fans an opportunity to see us play at home on the first weekend of the season," she added. "This tournament also creates an excitement on campus for the students to come and watch us play, as well."
Six teams will be on campus to highlight the event, which runs Friday and Saturday. The field includes the Lady Eagles, Augusta State, West Virginia Wesleyan, Mount Olive, Lincoln Memorial and Lees McCrae.
"We have always had strong teams attend and the competition has been great," Mincey said. "This year provides a lot of in-region competition for us."
"We need to stay focused on coming out ahead against region competition. Our team has worked very hard during the preseason and is excited to execute the things that we have worked on."
Carson-Newman, which advanced to the championship game of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament in 2007, will kick off action on both days. The Lady Eagles take on Augusta State at 12 p.m. on Friday, and Lees McCrae at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The full tournament schedule can be found here.
Admission to the event is only $5 per person, per day.
