Lady Eagles Sweep Lincoln Memorial

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. - The Carson-Newman women's volleyball team swept conference rival Lincoln Memorial (25-17, 25-13, 25-23). The Lady Eagles improve to 4-3 in conference play, 13-11 overall. The Railsplitters are 2-4 in the SAC and 13-7 overall.
The Lady Eagles jumped out a quick start with a win over the Railsplitters 25-17. Carson-Newman was led by Caitlin Schlegel (Anacortes, Wa.) and Jessica Schachleiter (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 8 and 7 kills respectively.
Carson-Newman continued on their streak with a 25-13 win in the second set. Schlegel added 2 aces for the Lady Eagle effort.
"I was really impressed with our hitting tonight," said head coach Shannon Mincey, "We really focused on hitting this week in practice, and the girls really stepped it up."
The Railsplitters fought back in the third set, led by junior Amanda Horenkamp with 10 kills and 2 aces. Carson-Newman battled through, and finished the game with a 25-23 score. Haley Bush (Spartanburg, S.C.) led the Lady Eagles effort with 8 digs.
"I want to thank our crowd tonight," added Mincey, "Their support gave us a lot of momentum which carried us through the match."
