NEWBERRY, SC-- Carson-Newman dominated the first two games and held off a Newberry rally to defeat the Indians, 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles (8-7, 2-3 SAC) were led by Kelli Sorensen who recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs. Senior setter Kari Gibson played a good all-around game for the Lady Eagles accounting for nine kills and 40 assists while registering six digs, two service aces and a block assist.
"The team responded well after losing a tough match to PC just 11 hours prior to playing Newberry, " coach Shannon Mincey said. "Kari Gibson pretty much controlled the game with her ability to read the opposing court. Meg Davis also stepped up as she had a season high .389 hitting percentage. She took very selective shots to get kills-that is something we need from Meg."
