Lady Eagles Fall To Tusculum

JEFFERSON CITY, TN-- Carson-Newman relinquished a two games-to-none advantage as the Lady Eagles fell to their archrival, 3-2 (30-22, 30-25, 22-30, 24-30, 9-15).
C-N (4-2, 0-1 SAC) dominated the first two games, hitting .290 and .308, respectively. Katie Troyer led the Lady Eagles with 16 kills and Kelsey Fleck added 14 to pace the C-N attack to give the Lady Eagles an early advantage at Holt Fieldhouse.
Momentum swung to the Pioneers' favor as Tusculum relied on the strong right hand of Heather MacArthur and good blocking to win game three, 30-22. MacArthur smashed 14 kills for the Pioneers and Holli Cadenhead added 12 for Tusculum. The Pioneers held preseason All-SAC outside hitter Kelli Sorensen to a season low nine kills. Sorensen commited 10 attack errors.
In game four, the Lady Eagles could only manage a dismal .105 hitting percentage as Tusculum claimed the win, 30-24 to send the game into the decisive fifth frame. Salem Stepp and Haley Bush kept the Eagle defense together in collecting 13 digs apiece. Kari Gibson once again paced the Eagle offense with 45 assists.
In the final game, Tusculum hit a game-best .529 to win 15-9 to give the Lady Eagles their first conference loss of the 2006 season. Melissa Miller added 15 kills for the Lady Eagles with eight digs while Bush recorded four service aces to lead C-N in that category.
