March 27, 2007
ATHENS, WV-- Kelli Sorenson posted 10 kills while Allyson Corhn and Bruna Rasuck combined for 35 assists as Carson-Newman defeated Concord, 3-0 (30-11, 30-26, 30-15)in the 2006 season opener.
The Eagles (1-0) played without senior setter Kari Gibson who is recovering from injury, but Corhn and Rasuck controlled the offensive tempo as the Eagles recorded 40 kills in the match.
"This was a great game for us to get into the groove and practice our systems," head coach Shannon Mincey said. "Allyson and Bruna did a great job running the offense. Our serving got tougher as the match progressed which was very pleasing."
Salem Stepp led the Eagle defense with 12 digs while Vanessa Kinsler recorded four block assists and two solo blocks. The Eagles also had 12 service aces. Stepp led the Eagles in that category with five while Rasuck added three.
