Lady Eagles One Win from South Atlantic Conference Title
Oct. 31, 2008
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Catawba earlier this month, but the Lady Eagles still hold a slim lead over the Indians in the SAC standings entering Saturday night's regular season-finalé.
Carson-Newman is 6-1 in the SAC, while Catawba is 5-1-1, meaning a win by the Lady Eagles over Newberry (4-3 SAC, 8-7-1) would give them the outright conference crown. First touch is at 5:30 p.m.
The women's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tourna¬ment is set to get underway this week. Carson-Newman will host on Tuesday night. If the Lady Eagles beat Newberry, their first round opponent would be Mars Hill.
Leading the Carson-Newman offense this sea¬son has been senior Brittany Moore, who has seven goals thus far.
Sophomore Morgan Gruenenfelder and freshman Trenna Howell have recorded six goals apiece, while senior Katie Perea has added five.
Senior Megan Julian has posted a team-high six assists.
The Lady Eagles are currently third in the NCAA Southeast Regional Rankings. The top six teams advance to the NCAA Tournament. C-N is seeking its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
C-N will also dedicate its new soccer lights before Saturday evening's game. The new addition to the soccer complex is named in honor of Roland File, a former Eagle who died in an automobile accident in 2007. The dedication ceremony is at 5 p.m.
