Carson-Newman Sneaks Past Lincoln Memorial

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN - The Carson-Newman women's soccer team defeated conference rival Lincoln Memorial 1-0. The Lady Eagles improve to 11-4, 5-1 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Railsplitters fall to 10-3-1 overall and 3-2 in the SAC.
The Lady Eagles struck first in the 13th minute of the game when sophomore Morgan Gruenenfelder (Sweetwater, Tenn.) finished a corner kick from freshman Lydia Wright (Nashville, Tenn.) with a one touch placement.
"I am delighted with the big conference win," said head coach, "The first half was a great performance with quick speed and an upbeat tempo."
Lincoln Memorial came out strong in the second half outshooting the Eagles 14 to 10. Carson-Newman played a defensive battle to pull out the conference win. The Railsplitters were led by keeper Denise De Resende with four saves on the night. Carson-Newman's Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, Ontario) tallied eight saves.
"The play was totally opposite in the second half," added McNamara, "Lincoln Memorial possessed the ball and was very aggressive. We spent the entire half chasing but anytime you win in the conference you are delighted."
The Lady Eagles will be back in action Friday, October 24 as they take on Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. at 7 p.m. Lincoln Memorial will face conference rival Catawba College on Saturday, October 25 at 4 p.m. in Salisbury, N.C.
