Catawba Slips Past Carson-Newman, 1-0

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Freshman Alyssa Retundie (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) scored with just under four minutes to play to lift Catawba to a 1-0 victory over visiting Carson-Newman on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 9-3-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the SAC. The Eagles fall to 8-4 and 3-1.
The teams had very few opportunities in the opening half, combining for just five shots. C-N had three of the shots, but Catawba keeper Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) recording three of her four match saves. The Lady Indians did not have a shot on goal, with Retundie firing wide on both tries.
Catawba would out-shoot the Eagles 6-1 in the final half with Retundie finally breaking through collecting a ball off a rebound and firing past C-N keeper Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, ONT, CANADA) in the 87th minute. MacKenzie joined Webster with four saves.
