Lady Eagles Sneak Past Lenoir-Rhyne

Hickory, N.C. - The Carson-Newman College Women's Soccer Team (6-1-0, 1-0-0 SAC) slipped by Lenoir-Rhyne University (5-3-0, 1-1-0 SAC) by a 2-1 margin Saturday under the lights at Bears Field at Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
The Bears and the Lady Eagles recorded 10 shots each during the contest.
L-R struck first in the 13th minute when freshman midfielder Kaelia Frazier (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls HS) hit a cross from the left side of the field that bent its way into the net.
Carson-Newman equalized at the 29:17 mark as Katie Perea (Cumming, Ga.) slipped a free kick over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the goal. The score would remain tied through the half.
After intermission, the Lady Eagles scored the match-winning goal just 3:23 into the second half. Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) took a pass from Brittany Moore (Lenoir City, Tenn.) in a scramble inside the box and put it between the posts.
Carson-Newman goalkeeper Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, Ontario, CANADA) picked up the win as she tallied three saves. L-R junior Katelyn Burwell (Carthage, N.C./Pinecrest HS) suffered the loss in goal.
The Lady Eagles will travel to Denver, Co. where they will face Regis and Metro State.
