Pair of Lady Eagles receive preseason recognition

HICKORY, N.C.- Carson-Newman junior Shari Buford (Hampton, Ga.) and senior Ashley Tipton (Knoxville, Tenn.) have been named to the preseason All-South Atlantic Conference basketball teams, the conference office announced today.
Buford, a 5'11 forward, led the Lady Eagles in points (12.3 per game) and rebounds (8.3) as a sophomore. She also blocked 41 shots, nearly half of the teams total for the season.
A first team All-SAC selection, Buford will be the featured post in head coach Dean Walsh's new four-guard offensive set for this season.
Tipton, a 5'10 guard/forward, earned second team honors after 9.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game a season ago. After knocking down 71-of-148 three-point attempts as a junior, Tipton is set to re-write the school and conference record books from behind the arc.
The Lady Eagles were 15-14 a season ago and finished third in the South Atlantic Conference.
