ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Carson-Newman women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the South Atlantic Conference, according to the 2008-09 Coaches Preseason Poll taken at the league's annual Media Day Wednesday.

Returning All-Conference selection Shari Buford was named to the preseason All-Conference first team. Farragut native Ashley Tipton, one of the league's top three-point shooters, was named to the second team.
Tusculum received seven first-place votes to garner the top spot in the poll with 79 total. Wingate received the remaining two first-place nods and collected 72 total votes. Lenoir-Rhyne, Mars Hill, Newberry, Catawba, Lincoln Memorial and Brevard round out the poll in that order.
Tusculum won the regular season title in 2007-08, while Wingate edged the Lady Pioneers for the conference tournament crown.
Carson-Newman will travel to the University of North Carolina and defending national champion Tennessee for exhibition games on November 4 and 6, respectively. The Lady Eagles will open their regular campaign by hosting the Eagle Club Classic November 15-16 at Holt Fieldhouse
