Lady Eagles storm past Brevard, 106-84

Brevard, N.C. - The Carson-Newman women's basketball team strolled past Brevard College 106-84 in their WBCA PinkZone game Wednesday night at Boshamer Gymnasium in South Atlantic Conference action.
Lady Eagles junior forward Shari Buford (Hampton, Ga.) reached a career milestone, scoring 14 points to give her 1,007 points for her career.
The teams combined to hit 29 three-pointers during the offensive explosion as Brevard hit 42.9 percent (15-35) from behind the arc, and C-N hit 56.0 percent (14-25). The difference in the game came on the battle of the boards as the Eagles held a 43-31 rebounding edge.
Samantha Winn led Brevard with 20 points and eight rebounds. Amber Roberts broke out from a recent scoring funk, connecting on six three's for 18 points, and Amanda Whitaker had 14 as the Tornados fell to 6-18, 0-13 in the South Atlantic Conference. Winn currently sits 13 points shy of 1,000 for her career.
Ashley Kyle (Jefferson City, Tenn.) led the Lady Eagles (17-7, 8-5 SAC) with 23 points, while Lindsey Eggleston (Buena Vista, Colo.) scored 20. Ashley Tipton (Knoxville, Tenn.) had 18 points and 10 assists, Zoriah Williams (Calera, Ala.) had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Buford added 10 rebounds with her 14 points.
Buford scored the first points of the game on a layup off the pass by Eggleston and Eggleston put in a three-pointer as C-N went up 5-0 before the Tornados scored. A jumper by Anna Schlobohm in the paint off the assist by Winn put Brevard on the board with 1:40 into the game.
A jumper by Tipton put the Eagles lead back to five, before Whitaker put in a layup and a three from the top of the key to tie the game up at 7 with 16:59 left in the first half.
A three-pointer by Winn from the right side tied the game up at 15 with 12:28 on the clock in the first half. After Tipton and Whitaker traded three-pointers, the Eagles went on a 34-14 run to close out the half up 52-32.
Roberts hit three three-pointers in the second half and Winn added nine points, but C-N kept the game in check as the lead did not go below 16 as the Eagles took the win, 106-84.
C-N returns to action on the road as it heads to Harrogate, Tenn. to take on Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
