June 2, 2008
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Former Wingate University standout Emily Paffrath has been added to the Carson-Newman staff, head coach Dean Walsh announced Monday.
Paffrath, a four-year starter for the Bulldogs, will join the C-N staff as a graduate assistant and will work primarily with the C-N post players.
"We are excited to have someone like Emily on our staff," Walsh said. "Her experience as an All-SAC performer on an NCAA Tournament team will be an tremendous asset to our kids. Her knowledge of how to play in the paint should really help us improve down low."
The Bakersville, North Carolina native was a two-time All-South Atlantic Conference selection, and was also named SAC Freshman of the Year in 2003-'04. She finished her career as the league's all-time career leader in blocked shots (327) and blocked shots per game (2.66). She also had 1100 points and over 700 rebounds in her Bulldog career.
Wingate won four SAC regular-season titles during Paffrath's career, making NCAA Tournament appearances in each of her final three seasons.
Carson-Newman was 15-14 last season, finishing third in the South Atlantic Conference.
