Lady Eagles Fall for First Time This Season, 85-83

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles dropped their first game of the season 85-83 to Edinboro (Pa.) on Friday night in the first round of the Travel America Classic in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
Carson-Newman (7-1) trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half, only to rally to tie the game twice in the final minutes, including at 81-81 with 56 seconds remaining. Edinboro's Kelsey Conklin knocked down a pair of free throws after a Shari Buford (Hampton,Ga.) to give the Lady Scots an 84-81 lead with 13 seconds remaining.
Junior Ashley Kyle's (Jefferson City, Tenn.) three-pointer to tie it bounced off the rim, as C-N lost for the first time since March.
"We played poorly on both ends at times and it caught up to us," Lady Eagle head coach Dean Walsh said after the loss. "We better be much better on both ends tomorrow night."
The Lady Scots knocked down 8-of-19 from behind the arc to build their double-digit lead, including hitting on 5-of-8 in the second half.
C-N outrebounded Edinboro 47-38, including 17 offensive boards.
Senior Lindsay Eggleston (Buena Vista, Colo.) led the Lady Eagles with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Mandy Mendenhall added 15 points and seven boards, while Buford kicked in 14 and seven.
Edinboro guard Samantha Reimer led all scorers with 27 points.
C-N returns to action Saturday when it faces host and top-ranked Northern Kentucky. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
