Eagles extend unbeaten streak, blank Young Harris 3-0
Carson-Newman (6-3-1) extended its unbeaten streak to four games by defeating Young Harris (4-5-2) 3-0 on Wednesday evening at McCown Field.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (6-3-1) extended its unbeaten streak to four games by defeating Young Harris (4-5-2) 3-0 on Wednesday evening at McCown Field.
"Scored three goals and got a clean sheet," Carson-Newman head coach Simon Duffy said. "Our passing and movement was excellent at times, maybe not the final pass but the movement off the ball to find spaces was really good from us. I am really glad we are able to keep a clean sheet, because there were a few moments there where I was questioning if we were going to get broke down or not. Good win for us and a really good response."
The win extends a pair of streaks for Carson-Newman. The win extended C-N's unbeaten streak to four games, its longest of the season.
It is also C-N's fourth straight win in non-conference games, its longest such streak since 2017, and just the second time the program has achieved that mark under Duffy.
Scoring multiple times in the win, Carson-Newman remains spectacular when scoring first, scoring multiple goals and leading at the half. The Eagles are 5-0 when leading at intermission, 6-0-1 when scoring the first goal and 6-0-1 when scoring multiple goals in a game.
Carson-Newman and Young Harris eased into the match. The first shot of the match didn't come until 13 minutes in, when Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland) saw a shot off a free kick be saved by YHC goalkeeper Emily Jantz.
Young Harris miscommunicated a pass in the defensive half and it led to a C-N corner kick in the 15th minute. The Eagles would not score directly from the corner, but possessing the ball off the corner kick led to the game's first goal. Kim delivered a pass to Annika Fend, and the senior defender sent a ground shot through the YHC defense and into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 C-N.
The Eagles were excellent throughout the first half passing the ball and gained possession more than 60 percent of the time.
YHC did not attempt a shot until the 34th minute. It was a Aslaug Bratheim shot that missed wide.
The second and final shot for YHC in the opening half was a dangerous chance. Siara Moore made her way through the box, seeing her shot saved by Berna Kabakci (Zeddam, Netherlands).
Carson-Newman would get a much-needed insurance goal to end the first half. Elysia Teske (Augusta, Ga.) set up Kim with a pass, and the senior dribbled once to her right and rocketed a right-footed shot into the upper left corner of goal to extend the lead to 2-0 in the 44th minute.

"That is what she does everyday and is capable of," Duffy said. "She is a smaller player because of her height, but she plays so big and tall. Really happy for her to get on the scoresheet. The two strikes she has had here recently have been excellent.
After scoring just one goal in her first 39 career games with C-N, Kim has scored in back to back games and posted a career-high three points in the win over YHC as well.
"The effort on that play was just 100 percent there," Kim said. "Sifa (Morgan) won the ball back, it was played to Audrey (Gallagher), who then played it to Elysia (Teske) and she did well to hold it up. She saw me and played it to me. We work on that sequence in training all the time, so we knew how to execute it and we did it very well."
Into the second half, both sides had some early chances to score. In the 52nd minute, Jud ripped a shot toward the bottom right of net, seeing Jantz make a third save.
Just one minute later, Scarlett Hirschy took aim at goal for YHC, seeing Kabakci make one of her three second-half saves.
A mistake led to another Young Harris chance in the 58th minute. Sunny Bowlin-Stacy sent a shot at Kabakci, who was able to make the stop on the shot toward the center of goal.
Carson-Newman's last shot on target was its only second half goal. An Irish Miles (North Augusta, Ga.) cross was cleared toward the top left side of the penalty box. That's where Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, Ohio) lined up a right-footed shot that sailed toward the upper part of goal to extend the C-N advantage to 3-0 in the 67th minute.

The goal for Bukiewicz was her seventh of the year. Carson-Newman is remains undefeated (6-0) when the graduate student scores a goal.
The Mountain Lions did not attempt any shots after conceding a third goal and Carson-Newman saw the game out to seal a fourth clean sheet on the year.
Kabakci made four saves in her fourth clean sheet of the year and third in non-conference play.
Five different players helped record a point in the win. Kim was the only Eagle to score and assist on a goal, while seniors Elysia Teske (Augusta, Ga.) and Audrey Gallagher (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded their first career assists on the Kim goal in the 44th minute.
Carson-Newman saw four different players record multiple shots, with Teske leading the way with her four in 42 minutes.
As a reserve, Siara Moore's two shots led a Young Harris team that attempted just five in the match.
In a losing effort, YHC goalkeeper Emily Jantz made three saves and allowed three goals
Carson-Newman has the weekend off and returns to action next Wednesday when it heads up the road to battle with Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, Tennessee. First touch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
