Brilliant Bukiewicz powers Eagles to five-goal win over King
Molly Bukiewicz scored or assisted on three of Carson-Newman’s (2-1) five goals to propel the Eagles to a 5-0 win over King (1-1) on Wednesday evening at Parks Field in Bristol.
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Molly Bukiewicz scored or assisted on three of Carson-Newman's (2-1) five goals to propel the Eagles to a 5-0 win over King (1-1) on Wednesday evening at Parks Field in Bristol.
"To get a result like that is important, especially on the road," Carson-Newman head coach Simon Duffy said. "Matching another good performance is key for us. We struggled a little bit with that last year, so glad to see us play well consistently in back-to-back games. Obviously, I am very delighted to see us score five times, but more impressed with posting the clean sheet."
With the five-goal win, the Eagles have now won all 16 meetings with King. In the 16 victories, Carson-Newman has outscored King 58-5, scoring at least twice in each game. The Eagles have shutout the Tornado in six straight meetings and have done so in 11 of the 16 meetings. King has not scored in the last 565:30 of game action against the Eagles.
The five-goal victory is C-N's largest margin of victory since defeating Bluefield State by a similar score on October 5th, 2022.
After being shutout in the season opener, Carson-Newman has now scored four goals or more in back-to-back victories. It's the first time the Eagles have scored four or more time in consecutive games since the 2020 spring covid season, doing it against Mars Hill and Tusculum.
Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, Oh) was brilliant in the victory. She recorded her first career brace and added an assist for a career-best five-point day.
"So happy for Molly," Duffy said. "It was wonderful to watch and delighted to see her find the back of the net and be efficient."
King was the team to test goal early in the match. King's Brianna Sabatino sent a shot on goal and Berna Kabakci (Zeddam, Netherlands) made the save in the 6th minute. Five minutes later, she was tested again and made the stop on a shot toward the lower left part of goal.
Carson-Newman would begin to take control on the offensive end, and it resulted in early goals. Annika Fend delivered a superb cross into the box, and Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, Ohio) timed it perfectly, making one touch which was a shot past Olivia Seston to start the scoring in the 14th minute.

Nine minutes later, the graduate student would strike again. Fend sent in another cross, this one toward the top of the box. Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland) had the initial touch, and a deflection led it to Bukiewicz who fired a left-footed shot into the left part of goal to increase the lead.

Kabakci came up with two more saves in the 24th and 29th minutes, and C-N led 2-0 at the break.
Carson-Newman would score the first opportunity for either side after halftime. Fend dribbled her way into the right side of the penalty area, and booted a right-footed shot into the upper left part of goal to increase the lead to 3-0.
Bukiewicz helped set up Elly Leander (Clinton, Tenn.) in the 75th minute. A pass from Bukiewicz went toward the center of the box, where Leander fired a right-footed shot past Seston for her first career goal.
Karli Pettitt (Kingston, Tenn.) and Malia Kim (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) would connect on the fifth and final goal in the 85th minute. Pettitt ripped a left-footed cross into the six-yard box and the ball was headed by a King defender, but right to Kim who volleyed a shot into an open goal to cap the five-goal performance. Kim's goal was the first of her career.
Kim joined Leander and Fend as goal scorers for Carson-Newman in the win. Pettitt joined Bukiewicz and Fend, all recording one assist in the shutout win.
Kabakci was excellent in the second half as well to record her first clean sheet of the season. She recorded six saves in the win and is up to 21 for the year. The junior goalkeeper now has seven shutouts in her career.
Ella Froehlich led King with four shots, three of which were on target.
