JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (2-1) begins a mini two-game homestand tomorrow evening as it welcomes in Trevecca Nazarene (2-1) for a non-conference contest at 5:00 p.m. from McCown Field.
Carson-Newman will look to build on the momentum built over the past two games, outscoring its opponents 9-1 during this two-game winning streak. A three-game winning is something this program is accustomed to, having built at least one three-game winning streak nine of the past ten seasons.
For the first time since the spring 2021 season, Carson-Newman had two different players score multiple goals in back-to-back games. Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland) scored twice in the home opener versus North Greenville and Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, Ohio) followed it up with a career-best two goals against King on Sept 10. It's just the third occasion in the last seven years that two different players have scored multiple goals in back to back games. Bukiewicz is up to eight points in the past two games, tied for the most in the South Atlantic Conference.
Two different players recorded their first career collegiate goals in a 5-0 win over King on Sept 10. Freshman forward Elly Leander (Clinton, Tenn.) attempted three shots, with her third finding the back of the net in the 75th minute. Ten minutes later, Malia Kim (Clinton, Tenn.) volleyed a cross past the King keeper to cap the 5-0 win. Kim and Leander join nine other Eagles who have scored a goal in their Carson-Newman career.
Balanced scoring was a theme last season and it is back on display in 2025. Eight different players have recorded a point in the last two games. Also, the Eagles have seen six different players get in the scoring column to begin the year.
In a series with seven all-time meetings, Carson-Newman leads it 3-2-2. TNU's wins in the series came in consecutive meetings in 2013 and 2014. Since the losses, the Eagles have rattled off a four-match unbeaten streak including wins in three of the past four meetings. Carson-Newman defeated the Trojans in Nashville last season 1-0.
A new era is underway for Trevecca Nazarene women's soccer, as it hired Matheus Mello in the offseason. He is the seventh head coach in Trevecca women's soccer history. Mello was a lead assistant under Nathan Harrell for the past two seasons. After playing at Faulkner University, he went on to coach there for three seasons. His Trojans were picked to finish 9th in the Gulf South Conference's Preseason Coaches Poll.
Trevecca Nazarene has opened up with three straight home games to begin 2025. Hosting Tampa in the season opener, the Trojans gave up a pair of second-half goals to fall 3-1. TNU has responded well, winning back to back games. Last Saturday, it defeated Young Harris and held off Kentucky Wesleyan yesterday 4-2. Kentucky Wesleyan tied the game on two different occasions, but TNU's Anna Farrell scored goals in the 60th and 66th minutes to create separation and secure the win.
After Farrell's two goal game yesterday evening, she leads TNU in goals and points. Lainey Callis and Noelle Garcia each have goals through three games as well.
Dating back to last season, TNU has lost three of its past four road games. In road openers, TNU has won one of them over the past six seasons. That win came over Illinois-Springfield in 2022.
