For just the fifth time in nine seasons under head coach Simon Duffy, Carson-Newman has suffered back to back losses and its been at the start South Atlantic Conference play to #11 Catawba and Coker. Matching up with Mars Hill on Wednesday evening, C-N will hope to avoid its first three-game losing streak since 2014.
Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, Ohio) is one of 13 players in DII with three game-winning goals so far this season. Bukiewicz leads Carson-Newman with four goals, tied for third-most in the South Atlantic Conference. Her four goals have come in all three of the Eagles victories this season.
Carson-Newman will be wanting to return to its strong defensive form against Mars Hill as well. Goalkeeper Berna Kabakci (Zeddam, Netherlands) has made 30 saves in six games, second-most in the SAC and 27th most nationally.
In a series with 37 meetings, Carson-Newman has overwhelmed Mars Hill winning 33 of the 37 contests. The longest winning streak in the series by C-N came to an end in 2023. The Lions and Eagles played to a scoreless draw the last time the two sides met in Mars Hill, North Carolina. Despite seeing a long winning streak to the Lions end, C-N's unbeaten streak remains intact at 19 games dating back to the 2007 season.
Mars Hill was selected to finish last in the South Atlantic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, after finishing the 2024 season with a 1-13-1 record. The Lions have played just four times this season, starting the year with a 4-0 home loss to Young Harris. MHU responded well by defeating Glenville State on 1-0 for its first win of the year on Sept 7, However, it enters Wednesday's affair coming off a pair of close losses to Lees-McRae and Newberry.
The Lions are hoping to eventually snap a long winless streak in South Atlantic Conference games. Dating back to the 2023 season, MHU is winless in its last 15 conference games. Its last win in league play was October 15, 2023 at Emory & Henry.

The Lions were second to last in goals scored in 2024, scoring just three goals in 15 games. This season, it ranks last in goals scored with just 1 in four games. Spanning three seasons, MHU has scored just four goals in its last 22 games played.

Peyton Pierson has four appearances as MHU's goalkeeper and has made 16 saves on 23 shots toward goal. Off the bench, Kayleigh Palmer has not allowed a goal and has seven saves in two games played.
