JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The 2025 Carson-Newman women's soccer season is fast approaching and that means its time to start previewing the Eagles roster, with the first of three position previews. It starts with a glance at the forwards with help from senior Selina Jud (Wilderswil, Switzerland).
Jud returns for her final season in Mossy Creek and has proven to be a reliable player through her first three seasons. In 50 games played, the Wilderswil, Switzerland native has scored 11 goals and added four assists, scoring at least three goals in each season with C-N. Her four goals in 2024 tied for the team lead, while also leading the club in shots on goal with 12.
"I think a lot has changed over the years," Jud said. "There have been a lot of different teammates I got to play next to, my position has changed. I came in as a midfielder and now going to be playing more as a forward. I'm really excited for this upcoming season."
Those offensive numbers came from playing an attacking midfield role, but now Jud eyes a forward role to help boost C-N's offense in 2025.
"The transition has been pretty easy," Jud said. "Coach Duffy has put us in various positions throughout the years. Midfielders sometimes play as forwards and vice versa. I got used to it and now I can focus on that one position and give it my all."
A major plus for the Eagles is that every forward that contributed points this past season also returns in 2025. Anita Arnadottir (Alfantes, Iceland), Molly Bukiewicz (Beavercreek, Ohio), and Krista Nielsen (Saudarkrokur, Iceland) all return after they each scored two goals last season. Bukiewicz is the most experienced of the group, having played in 54 games over seasons with C-N. She has seven career assists and has totaled 11 points.
Arnadottir enters her senior year with 37 appearances, 12 of which have been starts. Her first two career goals were also last season.
Among returners, Nielsen has the second-most career points with 12 scoring five goals and adding two assists over her first two seasons with C-N.
Elysia Teske (Augusta, Ga.) rounds out the group of returners. She has 19 appearances over the last two years, with three of her four shots finding the target.
"It's really cool to see," Jud said. "We came in as a big group of freshman and we're basically the same group still with some additions. It's really cool because you get to know how to play with them and find that chemistry and so that makes it easier now to play this season."
Two newcomers Brooke Bolton and Emma Leander join an offense that is aiming to regain its footing in 2025. C-N scored an average of 1.25 goals per game in 2024, its lowest mark in a decade. 12 of the 20 goals scored came in the first six games of the season. The goal-scoring struggles came with the inability to get a fair number of shots. Carson-Newman attempted just 200 shots last season, its fewest in a season since 2012.
"I think we were all, in the beginning, very hungry," Jud said. "We tried to keep going on that, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way. In the spring, we played some great games and I think that can help carry over."
Carson-Newman women's soccer position previews will continue next Saturday, August 23rd with a preview of the team's midfielders with help from Felicia Frick.
