JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (13-9, 8-8 South Atlantic Conference) makes the short jaunt north for the 225th all-time meeting with Lincoln Memorial (14-8, 10-6 SAC) Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Tex Turner Arena.
LMU leads the all-time series 118-105 and has won five straight.
Lincoln Memorial is trying to pull off something its never done against Carson-Newman in the 224 previous meetings, win six consecutive games over the Eagles.
Carson-Newman is looking for its first win in Harrogate since Feb. 4, 2015, an 87-72 win over then-No. 1 LMU. The Eagles have since dropped 10 consecutive games in Tex Turner Arena to the Railsplitters.
In the first meeting, a 70-58 win for LMU, C-N had three separate stretches where it turned it over once per minute for four straight minutes, including an early second-half swoon where the Eagles gave it away six times in six minutes. C-N turned it over 19 times that day, leading to a 25-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
Jack Browder enters the contest on 1,885 career points. He is seventh all-time in scoring. Browder is 37 points away from the man who occupies sixth on the all-time list. Ish Sanders has 1,922 career points. Browder is fifth among active NCAA Division II players in career scoring and 16th among all players in all divisions. Browder is seventh in SAC history in scoring, he needs 20 more points to move into a tie for seventh in league history with Presbyterian's Chuck Rayford and his 1,905 career points.
With 834 career rebounds, Browder is fourth among active Division II players in career rebounds. Browder, plus Hall of Famers Mike Ogan and Tommy Everette are the only three members of the 1,500/700 club in Carson-Newman history. Browder is the only player in the NCAA era to do that.
Browder is one of three active players in college basketball with 1,800 career points and 800 career rebounds. Carl Cleveland at Young Harris and Gonzaga's Graham Ike are the only others in the NCAA. Browder's 834 rebounds are the fifth-most in school history and eighth in SAC history. He needs 20 more rebounds to equal Lincoln Memorial's Emmanuel Terry (2015-18) for seventh on the league's all-time rebounding list.
With 36 career double-doubles, Browder already has career mark for Carson-Newman for all-time double-doubles (at least in the NCAA era where we have game-by-game stats). He has the most double-doubles among active NCAA Division II players. He has the eighth-most double-doubles amongst players in all divisions. Browder's 11 double-doubles this year lead the SAC and are fourth nationally.
Browder is the only player in NCAA Division II to lead his league in scoring and rebounding. Browder is also the only player in the country in the top 20 in both scoring and rebounding. Browder is fifth in scoring at 23.3 points per game and 15th in rebounding at 9.8 boards per game.
