NASHVILLE – For the third time in his career and the first time this season, the Tennessee Sportswriters' Association has recognize Carson-Newman men's basketball forward Jack Browder as the state player of the week, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
Buoyed by his second career 30-15 game, Browder (Kingsport, Tenn.) was also named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week by the league office Monday.
The honor is the fifth from the league for Browder in his career.
Browder led Carson-Newman to a 74-61 road win at Lander on Saturday. He produced his sixth career game with at least 30 points and his third career game with at least 15 rebounds.
The Kingsport, Tenn.-native is the only player in school history with a 30-15 game, let alone two. He had 36-16 last year at UVA Wise en route to national player of the week honors. Against Lander, he produced an even 30-15.
The senior connected on 10-of-21 shots and 5-of-8 threes. He was 5-for-6 at the charity stripe.
Browder also dished out a pair of assists and had a steal.
As a by-product of his scoring efforts, he moved past former teammate John Zhao and into the top 20 in school history in career scoring with 1,433 career points. He also moved past George Cox with his scoring effort and sits 19th all-time in school history.
Browder and the rest of the Eagles head to North Georgia Wednesday for a 2 p.m. tip. Coverage from the Convocation Center begins at 1:45 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Talk 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
