JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (6-1, 2-0 South Atlantic Conference) tangles with its second ranked foe in the fall of 2025 when No. 18 Anderson (7-0, 2-0 SAC) arrives in Holt Fieldhouse for a 4 p.m. tip Saturday.
Carson-Newman has won three straight since falling to No. 11 North Georgia the day before Thanksgiving. Anderson is one of 13 remaining unbeaten clubs in NCAA Division II. The Trojans seven-game winning streak is tied for the 12th-longest active win streak in the country.
"They are the best offensive team in the country," head coach Chuck Benson said. "We've spent a lot of time trying to assess what our options are defensively speaking to try to impact their performance and output. It'll be challenging. Our coaching staff has come up with some things that we hope can impact them, but that's only half the job. We have to put points on the board to keep game pressure on them."
Anderson has the most efficient offense in the country. The Trojans lead the nation in field goal percentage (53.6), effective field goal percentage (63.6) and threes per game (13.7). Furthermore, the Trojans are top five nationally in seven other offensive categories.
The Trojans are second nationally in scoring margin, beating opponents by an average 32.4 points per game. Anderson's closest game is a 14-point win over Eckerd, 78-64. Anderson has trailed for a grand total of 6:47 this season. The largest deficit it has faced this year was five-points against Tampa. Anderson has not trailed in the second half of a game this season.
Anderson is the second ranked team Carson-Newman faces this season. The Eagles fell at the buzzer to No. 11 North Georgia before Thanksgiving. Anderson is nationally ranked for the first time since 2012.
Anderson is paced by Rashawn Inglemon and his 16.6 points per game. He is the eighth-highest scoring freshman in the country. Carson-Newman has already faced the sixth-highest scoring freshman in NCAA Division II in King's Lenier Pocknett (averaging 17.2 a game). Pocknett had 19 off the bench in his debut in Carson-Newman's 108-71 win over the Tornado.
Inglemon, Kadyn Dawkins and Caleb McAbee rank one, two and three in the SAC in threes made per game this year, with Inglemon leading the pack at 4.29 a contest. Every member of that trio connects on threes at a minimum 51.4 percent clip.
C-N's Jack Browder enters the contest on 1,527 career points. He is 12th all-time in scoring, and, if you follow numbers, the program's 13th all-time 1,500-point scorer. A seventh career 30-point game, a 32-point night to be exact, would move him into 11th on the all-time list and even with Sawyer Williams and his 1,559 career points. Browder is seventh among active NCAA Division II players in career scoring and 37th among all players in all divisions.
With 692 career rebounds, Browder is fifth among active Division II players in career rebounds. With 1,500 career points, he has joined Mike Ogan, Tommy Everette, Charles Clark, Sawyer Williams and Antoine Davis as the sixth player in school history with 1,500 career points and 500 career rebounds. When he gets to 700 career rebounds, it will be Browder, Ogan and Everette as the only players in school history as members of that club. Browder is looking to become the sixth player in school history with 700 career boards.
With 28 career double-doubles, Browder already has career mark for Carson-Newman for all-time double-doubles (at least in the NCAA era where we have game-by-game stats). He has the second-most double-doubles among active NCAA Division II players, behind Young Harris' Carl Cleveland's 29. He has the 15th-most double-doubles amongst players in all divisions.
Browder is the only player in NCAA Division II to lead his league in scoring and rebounding. Browder, Frostburg State's Mike Montano (29.0 ppg - 1st, 12.0 rpg - 3rd) and Queens' Tahj-Malik Campbell (22.1 ppg - 15th, 9.7 rpg - 18th) are the only players in the top 25 nationally for both scoring and rebounding. Browder is 16th in scoring at 22.0 points per game and ninth in rebounding at 10.6 boards per game.
Tipoff with the Trojans is set for 4 p.m. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network starts at 3:45 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mix 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
