JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – After starting 3-1 in league play, Carson-Newman (8-4, 3-3 South Atlantic Conference) will look to pump the breaks on a two-game conference losing streak when it visits Emory & Henry (7-5, 2-4 SAC) Wednesday evening. Tipoff from The King Center is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The Eagles haven't lost three straight SAC games since Feb. 2023 when C-N found itself mired in a six-game league losing streak.
The Wasps are above .500 12 games into a season for the first time since 2022-23. That was E&H's first year transitioning to NCAA Division II. It had a 7-5 record 12 games in as well, but had also accrued four of those wins against non-DII institutions, and two of its Division II wins were against DII independents Puerto Rico-Bayamon and Puerto Rico-Cayey.
Emory & Henry gets to the line more than any team in the South Atlantic Conference. The Wasps attempt the third most free throws in the country - 29.7 per game - and make the sixth most nationally with 21.3 a contest. Jackson Crawford has made 94.2 percent of his free throws this season - sixth nationally. His 91.1 career percentage is second among active NCAA Division II players and fourth among all college players.
Jack Browder enters the contest on 1,650 career points. He is 10th all-time in scoring, and, if you follow numbers, the program's 13th all-time 1,500-point scorer. Jerald Ellington is next to catch on the all-time scoring list with 1,662 points. Browder is 12 away from him. Browder is seventh among active NCAA Division II players in career scoring and 32nd among all players in all divisions.
Browder has turned in eight straight 20-point games, the longest streak in school history. He has produced a double-double in three straight games. He is looking for his second career four-game streak with at least 10 points and 10 rebounds.
With 749 career rebounds, Browder is fifth among active Division II players in career rebounds. With 1,500 career points, he has joined Mike Ogan, Tommy Everette, Charles Clark, Sawyer Williams and Antoine Davis as the sixth player in school history with 1,500 career points and 500 career rebounds. Browder, Ogan and Everette are the only three members of the 1,500/700 club. Browder is the only player in the NCAA era to do that.
Browder is one of eight active players playing NCAA college basketball with 1,500 career points and 700 career rebounds. Carl Cleveland at Young Harris and Maceo Williams at Ashland are the only others in NCAA Division II. Browder needs nine more boards to tie Mike Morton for the fifth-most rebounds in school history.
With 32 career double-doubles, Browder already has career mark for Carson-Newman for all-time double-doubles (at least in the NCAA era where we have game-by-game stats). He has the second-most double-doubles among active NCAA Division II players, behind Young Harris' Carl Cleveland's 33. He has the 11th-most double-doubles amongst players in all divisions.
Browder is the only player in NCAA Division II to lead his league in scoring and rebounding. Browder is the only player in the country in the top 25 in both scoring and rebounding. Browder is fifth in scoring at 22.8 points per game and fifth in rebounding at 10.9 boards per game.
Tipoff between the Eagles and Wasps is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at 7:15 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mix 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
