JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – With its contest moved up 24 hours, Carson-Newman (10-7, 5-6 South Atlantic Conference) looks to keep the good times rolling as it heads to Goodman Arena to take on Catawba (13-4, 8-3 SAC) Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
C-N has won back-to-back games. The Indians are winners of two straight as well, but have won eight of their last nine.
Catawba is a flawless 7-0 at home this season. The Indians have won nine straight at home overall. That registers as the 16th longest active home win streak in the country. The Indians shoot six percentage points better (47.4-41.4) from the field at home and average 82 points at home versus 77.7 points on the road.
Carson-Newman has dropped five straight to the Indians. Carson-Newman has turned it over an average of 19 times per game in the current losing streak to the Indians. Catawba has outscored C-N 123-49 in points off turnovers over the last five games. Catawba has had a minimum 20 points off turnovers against C-N in all five of those contests.
The Indians are the SAC's best offensive rebounding team. Catawba ranks 11th nationally with 15.53 a game. Catawba had 24 offensive rebounds in the 80-66 win over C-N in Holt Fieldhouse on Jan. 3. That led to a 24-2 advantage for Catawba in second chance points.
Jack Browder enters the contest on 1,766 career points. He is eighth all-time in scoring. The lone player in school history with his jersey retired, Arnold Mellinger, is next to catch on the all-time scoring list with 1,826 points. Browder is 60 away from him. Browder is sixth among active NCAA Division II players in career scoring and 20th among all players in all divisions.
With 791 career rebounds, Browder is fourth among active Division II players in career rebounds. Browder, plus Hall of Famers Mike Ogan and Tommy Everette are the only three members of the 1,500/700 club in Carson-Newman history. Browder is the only player in the NCAA era to do that.
Browder is one of three active players in NCAA Division II with 1,700 career points and 700 career rebounds. Carl Cleveland at Young Harris and Dylan Kuehl at Northern Michigan are the only others in NCAA Division II. Browder's 785 rebounds are the fifth-most in school history.
With 34 career double-doubles, Browder already has career mark for Carson-Newman for all-time double-doubles (at least in the NCAA era where we have game-by-game stats). He has the second most double-doubles among active NCAA Division II players, behind Young Harris' Carl Cleveland's 35. He has the eighth-most double-doubles amongst players in all divisions.
Browder is one of two players in NCAA Division II to lead his league in scoring and rebounding - Central Oklahoma's Matthew Willenborg leads the MIAA in both categories. Browder is the only player in the country in the top 25 in both scoring and rebounding. Browder is fifth in scoring at 23.1 points per game and 12th in rebounding at 10.1 boards per game.
