JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (8-5, 3-4 South Atlantic Conference) looks to put a halt to a three-game league losing streak when it makes the trek to Hickory, N.C. to take on No. 24 Lenoir-Rhyne (12-3, 6-1 South Atlantic Conference) Saturday at 4 p.m.
Lenoir-Rhyne owns a four-game winning streak overall and hasn't lost at home in 11 games, tied for the sixth-longest active home win streak in the country.
LR is the third ranked team C-N has faced this season. The Eagles are 0-2 against members of the top 25 this year. C-N had four wins over ranked foes last season.
Carson-Newman has a fairly substantial gap between its wins and its losses both offensively and defensively. In wins, Carson-Newman is shooting 49.9 percent from the field, 33.7 percent from three and 71.3 percent at the line while averaging 85.4 points. In losses, the Eagles average 72.8 points while only shooting 39.5 percent from the field, 29.3 percent from three and 83.1 percent at the line. C-N's three-point defense is also significantly different. C-N gives up 25.4 percent shooting from range and 5.8 threes per game in wins, but 38.5 percent shooting and 9.4 threes per game in losses.
Jack Browder enters the contest on 1,678 career points. He is ninth all-time in scoring, Gil Luttrell is next to catch on the all-time scoring list with 1,705 points. Browder is 27 away from him. Browder is sixth among active NCAA Division II players in career scoring and 27th among all players in all divisions.
Browder has turned in nine straight 20-point games, the longest streak in school history. He has produced a double-double in four straight games for the second time in his career. He is the only player in program history with four consecutive double-doubles.
With 760 career rebounds, Browder is fourth among active Division II players in career rebounds. Browder, plus Hall of Famers Mike Ogan and Tommy Everette are the only three members of the 1,500/700 club in Carson-Newman history. Browder is the only player in the NCAA era to do that.
Browder is one of eight active players playing NCAA college basketball with 1,500 career points and 700 career rebounds. Carl Cleveland at Young Harris and Maceo Williams at Ashland are the only others in NCAA Division II. Browder's 760 rebounds are the fifth-most in school history.
With 33 career double-doubles, Browder already has career mark for Carson-Newman for all-time double-doubles (at least in the NCAA era where we have game-by-game stats). He has the second-most double-doubles among active NCAA Division II players, behind Young Harris' Carl Cleveland's 34. He has the 11th-most double-doubles amongst players in all divisions.
Browder is the only player in NCAA Division II to lead his league in scoring and rebounding. Browder and Young Harris' Carl Cleveland are the only players in the country in the top 25 in both scoring and rebounding. Browder is fourth in scoring at 23.5 points per game and seventh in rebounding at 10.9 boards per game.
