Carson-Newman Defeats King College, 3-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman College men's soccer team defeated the King College Tornado Tuesday night at McCown Field. With the win, the Eagles move to 10-3-2 (5-1-1 SAC) on the season, while King drops to 10-6-1, (5-2 AAC).
Both teams started off strong defensively, remaining scoreless in the first half of play.
In the second half, King College would strike first in the 58th minute of play on a goal by senior Alex Mendy (Banjul, The Gambia). Getting the assist was sophomore John Simmons (Essex, England).
However, Carson-Newman answered quickly in the 59th minute. Sophomore Richard Marquetty (New York City, N.Y.) found the back of the net to tie the game up, 1-1.
The Eagles would take the lead after freshman Robert Hill (Middlesbrough, England) scored on breakaway at the 69th minute.
The final goal of the night came when C-N senior Marcus Cabralis (Trinidad and Tobago) scored off the post in the 77th minute of the game, making the score 3-1.
Getting the win for Carson-Newman was sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) Moore had four saves on the night. King's Patrick Milfeld was saddled with the loss.
Carson-Newman will be back in home action this Saturday night against conference foe Newberry. The match is set to begin at 8:00 p.m. at McCown Field. King will look to rebound this Saturday against Tennessee Wesleyan at 3:00 p.m. in Bristol.
