C-N Men's Soccer Defeat Chowan in Opener, 4-0

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Eagles men's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 victory over the visiting Chowan Sunday afternoon at McCown Field in Jefferson City.
Freshman starter Ross Carhart (Pittsburgh, Pa.) came up with the Eagles first score of the season, finding the back of the net in the 30th minute. C-N controlled the tempo and possession, but struggled to score in the opening half.
"It was a good team win for us. We played well," said Head Coach Allen Vital, "I would have loved to finish some of the chances we created. We know that we have to get better and it must improve. We will get some rest and get the focus next week."
Things changed in the second half, Richard Marquetty (New York, NY) found the back of the net in the 56th minute of the game, finishing a ball from Marcus Cabralis (Trinidad and Tobago).
Gustavo Velosso (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) slipped one past the Hawks keeper in the 68th minute of the game.
The final goal of the game came from Morristown West standout, freshman Anthony Chiappetta (Morristown, Tenn.) in the 71st minute.
The Eagles will face Northern Kentucky next Friday, September 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
