JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman baseball (30-12) makes its biggest jump in Division II Baseball's top 25 poll, moving up six spots to No. 15 in the latest poll that was released Monday afternoon.
This is the seventh time that DII Baseball has ranked Carson-Newman in its top 25. The Eagles dropped four spots in last week's poll but leap six spots forward to No. 15 after a 3-1 week. The week was highlighted by the program's second series win over a top ten team this season, taking two out of three against #7 Lenoir-Rhyne.
Head coach Tom Griffin's team is 30-12 overall this season. 30 wins is tied for the fourth most wins in the Southeast region this season. It's the program's first season with 30 wins or more since 2019. C-N is 18-6 in South Atlantic Conference play this season, two gams behind first-place Catawba.
The Eagles are joined in the rankings by two South Atlantic Conference teams. After losing two games to C-N, Lenoir-Rhyne drops three spots to number eight. Catawba, C-N's opponent this weekend, stayed put at no. 11 despite going 3-1 this past week.
Carson-Newman is one of seven Southeast region schools ranked. North Greenville has the most wins in the region with 36 and is ranked fifth. Young Harris and Francis Marion also represent Conference Carolinas in the poll at 12 and 20, respectively. North Georgia is the only ranked Peach Belt school at 14.
The Eagles start their final road stretch of the season on Wednesday against King. First pitch in Bristol is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
