Eagles move up one spot in NCBWA poll, make debut in coaches poll
For the third straight week, Carson-Newman (14-4, 7-2 SAC) is ranked in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll that was announced earlier today. C-N moves up spot to No. 24 in this week’s poll and makes its first appearance in the American Baseball Coaches Association poll at No. 19.
WINGATE, N.C. – For the third straight week, Carson-Newman (14-4, 7-2 SAC) is ranked in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll that was announced earlier today. C-N moves up spot to No. 24 in this week's poll and makes its first appearance in the American Baseball Coaches Association poll at No. 19.
C-N moves up one spot in the NCBWA rankings after going 2-1 versus #7 Florida Southern last week. It was Carson-Newman's first series win over a top ten foe in program history.
The Eagles are joined in the rankings by Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne, the only two other South Atlantic Conference teams in the NCBWA top 25. Catawba fell ten spots from 9th to 19th in the rankings, while the Bears moved up six spots from 19 to 13 after a sweep of Newberry.
Only two other schools from the Southeast region are ranked by the NCBWA. The number one team in the country is North Greenville, receiving 16 first place votes. Mount Olive continues to surge up the rankings, moving eight spots to number eight with an 18-5 record.
In the ABCA poll, Carson-Newman makes its first appearance in the top 25 this season. The Eagles were 29th in last week's poll and make the jump up ten spots to No. 19.
Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne are both ranked at eight and ten, respectively.
The ABCA ranks North Greenville sixth in their poll, the highest ranked Southeast region school with Mount Olive also in the top ten at ninth. Young Harris is the final ranked team from the Southeast region at No. 20.
No. 24/19 Carson-Newman is back in action for a South Atlantic Conference series at Limestone this weekend. First pitch for the series opener on Friday is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
