Navy sweeps fall World Series
Game Five of Carson-Newman baseball’s annual fall World Series was a pitcher’s duel, with Navy winning both the run differential championship and the series yesterday afternoon thanks to a second straight tie between the two sides.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Game Five of Carson-Newman baseball's annual fall World Series was a pitcher's duel, with Navy winning both the run differential championship and the series yesterday afternoon thanks to a second straight tie between the two sides.
Navy won the series by winning the first three games of the series and was able to hold off Orange in the final two games of the series that were played for run differential. Both games four and five were played to ties, with yesterday's finale being a 1-1 tie.
Orange pitcher Kolton Casson (Benton, Tenn) was terrific in the series finale, striking out five batters and allowing just one run in his second start of the fall series. The freshman was recognized as the Cy Young winner of the Fall World Series.
Bransen Angel (Lutz, FL) got the final four outs for the Orange squad in the series finale.
After a first inning run, Ryan Higgins (Spotsylvania, V.A) recovered nicely, finishing with five strikeouts in his 2 2/3 innings on the mound. Blake Cooper (Maryville, Tenn) helped keep the Orange side off the scoreboard by recording the next eight outs of the game to keep Navy ahead with a +5 run differential. Dustin Crum (Greeneville, Tenn) slammed the door with a pair of strikeouts in the final inning of the game.
Navy's Ryan Jenkins (Winter Haven, FL) was named MVP after a fabulous series. He recorded multiple hits in three of the five games of the series including a hit in each game and had multiple RBI in the first two games of the series as well.
Orange's Evan Mutter (Bristol, Tenn) had a two-hit day in the finale, recording two of his team's three base hits.
Carson-Newman baseball begins the 2025 season on January 31st when it welcomes King to the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex for a three-game home series to begin the year.
