Casson collects SAC Pitcher of the Week honors
Carson-Newman freshman pitcher Kolton Casson (Benton, Tenn.) has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman freshman pitcher Kolton Casson (Benton, Tenn.) has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
This is Casson's first career weekly honor. He becomes the third Eagle to be recognized for a weekly honor, joining fellow pitcher Ryan Higgins and catcher Nicholas Castellana.
Casson's pitching helped Carson-Newman win its first-ever series versus a top ten this weekend.
The freshman tossed his second complete game of the season in the 3-1 win over #6 Florida Southern in the series finale. He allowed just one run on five hits and walked just one batter.
The Benton, Tenn. native recorded seven strikeouts in the win. He has seven or more strikeouts in four of his six starts this season.
The kid has been spectacular on the mound at the start of his rookie season. Casson has won all six of his starts, with 38 strikeouts over 36.1 innings with a 2.72 ERA. His 38 strikeouts are third-most in the SAC. Nationally, he is one of four pitchers tied with the most wins in DII.
His 0.94 WHIP is third best in the SAC and 40th in DII. Now up to two complete games this season, Casson is the first Eagle pitcher to record multiple complete games since Matt Bradley had two in 2022.
Casson and the Eagles are back in action at home today versus Lee. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
