JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – In game three of Carson-Newman baseball's Navy and Orange Fall World Series, it was Navy securing a series win on a walk-off walk Monday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
Navy scored first for the second straight game. Ryan Jenkins (Winter Haven, FL) reached base on a hit by pitch to start the inning and Tanner Kilgore (Kingsport, Tenn.) drove him in with a RBI single through the right side to make it 1-0 after the opening inning.
The Orange squad responded in the top half of the third inning. Evan Mutter (Bristol, Tenn.) led off with a double and Nicholas Castellana (Lancaster, NY) drove him with a groundout to level the score at one apiece.
Orange took its first lead in the top of the fourth inning. Jacob Rogers (Dandridge, Tenn.) slapped a single back up the middle to score Wade Carruthers (Phoenixville, PA).
With runners at first and second in the bottom of the fourth, McCain Mangum (Ringgold, Ga) induced an inning-ending double play to keep the Orange side ahead 2-1 after four complete innings.
Trey Miller (Rocky Point, N.Y) tied things up again for Navy in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out and a runner at third, he lifted a fly ball deep enough to score Colby Abbott (Louisville, Tenn.).
Orange's pitcher Aaron Bobo (Knoxville, Tenn.) escaped a jam in the bottom of the sixth inning. With a runner at third and one out, he was able to force a pair of fly outs to send the game to the seventh inning tied at 2.
After Navy pitcher Eli Norris (Ringgold, Ga.) struck out the side, the offense started the bottom of the seventh inning with a leadoff single. Mason Roderick (Riceville, Tenn.) knocked a single through the right side and advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt. Navy was able to load the bases with two outs, and Seth Benner (Morgantown, IN) drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to seal the series win.
The Orange squad scored two runs on five hits but committed three errors. Mutter paced Orange's offense, going 2 for 3. Navy scored three runs on just two hits.
