Seven Eagles tabbed as USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Seven student-athletes on Carson-Newman’s track & field team collected USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their achievements in the classroom last year.
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Seven student-athletes on Carson-Newman's track & field team collected USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their achievements in the classroom last year.
The 2025 USTFCCCA Track & Field Academic Awards are distributed by division and honor student-athletes who excelled in both the classroom and on the track and field.
To qualify, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale through the end of the semester of competition.
On the men's team, Rylan Jordan, Carlos Kouassi, Shemar Patten and Oluwafemi Richards earned All-Academic honors.
Jordan is the youngest Eagle on the list, finishing his freshman year in 2025. He is currently majoring in human services. The Johnson City native was a part of the 4x100-meter relay team that placed fifth at the 2025 DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Kouassi is a senior jumper for the Eagles from Basel, Switzerland. Kouassi is an exercise science major at C-N.
Patten is from Portmore, St. Catherine, Jamaica, and transferred to Carson-Newman last year to pursue his MBA. As a graduate student, he was a sprinter and hurdler for the Eagles. He also competed in the 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Richards, a senior jumper from Hendersonville, Tennessee, is majoring in philosophy.
For the women's side, Sade De Sousa, Sydney McCarty and Brooke Taylor picked up the All-Academic distinction.
De Sousa is a junior sprinter from Namibia for C-N. She is majoring in exercise science. On the track, she is a three-time All-American in the indoor 60m dash.
McCarty hails from Sevierville, Tennessee and she is a senior jumper for the Eagles, majoring in business. She finished seventh in the long jump at the 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Taylor is a junior, pursuing a degree in elementary education. The jumper is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee.
