Head coach Kieran Showler-Davis is looking to build on the momentum his squad gained in the first event of the second half of the year.
"Really great day on the track. The weather cooperated, and we got a really nice warm opener. Lots of great performances all around from PRs to fast opening marks," Showler-Davis said. "As always, there are things to improve upon, especially with it being the first meet of the season, but it was very encouraging."
Cadence Dolgin was one of the top performers for the Eagles as he broke the outdoor pole vault record. His efforts rewarded him with his second career South Atlantic Conference Athlete of the Week. The freshman made an impact during the indoor season, breaking the school record in the pole vault multiple times. He started the outdoor season by doing the same thing he did at his collegiate debut, as his 4.85-meter pole vault is a Carson-Newman record. The freshman now tops the charts in the pole vault for both indoor and outdoor. His mark gave him second place at the Lee University Invitational during the opening weekend.
Brooke Taylor made an early impression. The senior and South Atlantic Conference Athlete to Watch won the triple jump with 11.82 meters. Taylor also had the top marks for any Eagle in the long jump, taking sixth at 5.54 meters.
Blayne Jackson is coming off an All-Region indoor season and followed it up with a strong start this weekend. The freshman was second in the high jump, clearing 1.98 meters.
On the track, Trishanie Warner also took first place for the Eagles in the 400m. She clocked a time of 56.85 seconds. The senior also took sixth place in the 200m at 24.99 seconds.
The weather is expected to be great in Kennesaw, with Friday's forecast calling for temperatures near 80 degrees, and Saturday bringing cooler temperatures down to around 70 degrees. Friday is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. in the field, with the second day slated for an 11:00 a.m. start time.
