JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - After a busy start through the opening two weekends to the outdoor season, Carson-Newman track & field is eyeing a restful holiday weekend, with a handful of athletes in action.
After resetting the Carson-Newman record books with a 54.69-meter javelin throw at King, Ben Swank is heading to Emory & Henry for the Blue & Gold Invitational on Saturday. Meanwhile, assistant coach and head cross country coach Brent Borden is taking the distance runners to South Carolina for the Electric City Invitational, hosted by the Anderson Trojans.
Through the first two weeks, the Eagles have nabbed a pair of South Atlantic Conference honors. Cadence Dolgin won Field Athlete of the Week after the opening event at Lee, and then Rylan Jordan was Track Athlete of the Week for his blistering efforts at Emory.
Jordan made his first appearance of the outdoor season, after his All-American and bronze medal in the 60m during the indoor season, setting a pair of PRs. The sophomore took first place in the 200m at 20.95 seconds, and had the fastest qualifying time in the 100m, clocking 10.17 seconds, but did not run in the final.
Following this weekend, now holds the second fastest 100m at the Division II level this season, behind West Texas A&M's Issac Botsio, 10.09 seconds. Jordan's time is also tied for 10th across all divisions. His 200m time is the eighth best at Division II so far in the outdoor year.
A majority of the team is resting up before returning to action next weekend at the UT Invite in Knoxville and the Scots Invitational hosted by Maryville.
