C-N has strong performances at Lee in the opening outdoor meet

It was a hectic week for head coach Kieran Showler-Davis as he transitioned from the Division II Indoor National Championships last weekend to the outdoor season, which began yesterday and today.
"Really great day on the track. The weather cooperated, and we got a really nice warm opener. Lots of great performances all around from PRs to fast opening marks," Showler-Davis said. "As always, there are things to improve upon, especially with it being the first meet of the season, but it was very encouraging."
Cadence Dolgin made an impact during the indoor season, breaking the school record in the pole vault multiple times. He started doing the same thing when he made his collegiate debut, as his 4.85-meter pole vault is a Carson-Newman record. The freshman has etched his name in the record books twice now.
On Friday, Brooke Taylor made an early impression. The senior and South Atlantic Conference Athlete to Watch won the triple jump with 11.82 meters. Taylor also had the top marks for any Eagle in the long jump, taking sixth at 5.54 meters.
Trishanie Warner also took first place for the Eagles in the 400m. She clocked a time of 56.85 seconds. The senior also took sixth place in the 200m at 24.99 seconds.
In the 200m, Axelle Ombelets finished in front of her teammate in fourth, 24.80. She just missed first place with a time of 12.19 seconds in the 100m dash. Dominika Kooch also took fourth in the 100m at 12.49 seconds.
Blayne Jackson is coming off an All-Region indoor season and followed it up with a strong start this weekend. The freshman was second in the high jump, clearing 1.98 meters. On the women's side of the high jump, Kellie Ivens had a personal best at 1.55 meters.
Freshman Taylor Madison got off to a strong start with a third-place finish in the 100m, clocking a time of 10.57 seconds.
Ben Swank has waited his turn till the outdoor season, as he came second in the javelin throw. He finished with a throw notching 50.59 meters.
In the women's pole vault, SAC Indoor Champion Katie Edmunds finished fourth at Lee with 3.45 meters.
A pair of Eagles finished in the top 10 in the 5000m, Keirieonna Wilson took home sixth with Jenna Pittman claiming ninth.
Other notable times include Caroline Bannak taking fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.27. Noah Ricketts set his personal best time at 59.40 seconds in the men's 400m hurdles. Also, Ethan Blaylock's 49.45-second time was a PR in the 400m on the men's side. Daniel Heath was additionally sixth in the decathlon.
The Eagles are back in action next weekend at the Don McGarey Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State. That is set to begin on Friday, March 27th, at the KSU Outdoor Track & Field Facility.
