GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman beach volleyball defeated Tusculum University 4-1 on Wednesday at the TU Beach Volleyball Complex.
"Proud of the team today," said head coach Cat Collins. "Always feels good to beat a rival! We played well today as a whole, and we are getting better each match."
The Eagles won four of five courts. Tusculum took the No. 1 flight, but Carson-Newman responded with wins at No. 2, 3, 4 and 5.
At No. 2, Ava Potts and Emerson Ahsmuhs won 21-14, 21-16. Camryn Ehlers and Addie Smith followed with a 21-16, 21-15 win at No. 3. Morgan Foy and Lucy Bartee added a 21-12, 21-17 victory at No. 4.
At No. 5, Kelcey Peterson and Madison Trondle won 21-14, 35-33 to secure the match. The second set extended past 30 points before Carson-Newman closed it out.
"What a crazy match!" said Collins. "They played great and faced a lot of adversity. As freshmen, they were definitely thrown into the deep end, playing a rivalry game with lots of fans, but they swam. They grew so much today."
Carson-Newman improves to 18-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
Next up for the Eagles is Senior Day at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, at the Carson-Newman Beach Volleyball Courts. Senior Day festivities will begin before the match.
