Ehlers And Smith Named SACC Pair Of The Week
Carson-Newman's Camryn Ehlers and Addie Smith earned SACC Pair of the Week honors, the league announced in a release Tuesday morning
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman's Camryn Ehlers and Addie Smith earned SACC Pair of the Week honors, the league announced in a release Tuesday morning.
"They did great this past weekend, and it didn't matter what team they played against," said head coach Cat Collins. "They came out and worked really well together. They had great shots and great offense, which was really fun to watch."
Ehlers and Smith went 3-0 across all three matches of opening weekend. The pair held all competition below 15 points in each match and dominated their performance against Florida Memorial, winning 21-1, 21-4.
Ehlers shared insight into the chemistry between the pair and what makes them successful.
"Addie and I have great chemistry on the court," said Ehlers. "I think it stems from us being great friends before becoming partners. We are able to communicate what we need from each other and understand each other's feelings. I love playing with Addie because she is so positive and brings so much energy to the game."
Smith credited her friendship with Ehlers, as well as the support of her teammates and coaches, for the early-season success.
"I'm super excited and grateful to be able to start the season this way—playing with Camryn is so fun and easy," said Smith. "We are good friends off the court, and that definitely helps us on the court too. A lot of credit goes to our teammates and coaches as well for pushing us hard in practice. Our team has a lot of depth—anyone can beat anyone. Overall, I'm just super proud of everyone for our strong start, and we hope to continue this momentum."
Ehlers and Smith will return to the courts Wednesday, Feb. 17, for a doubleheader against Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia, with matches scheduled for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
