The Eagles Women’s golf team notched a score of +14 on the third day to finish in fifth place below Flagler, Lander, Wingate, and West Florida, who were all ranked teams last season.
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga.- The Eagles Women's golf team notched a score of +14 on the third day to finish in fifth place below Flagler, Lander, Wingate, and West Florida, who were all ranked teams last season.
"The girls had a tough day and fought really hard to shoot what they did. I know they wanted to finish higher, but still very proud of them for getting a top-five finish," said coach Alyssa Montgomery.
Emery Fisher led the way for the Eagles in the final round. The junior began her final round with two pars and birdie on the par three 4th to go one under through 7 holes. Despite a double on the 9th, Fisher immediately rebounded with a birdie at the 10th, and two holes later would bring herself back to an under-par score with a birdie at the 13th. She followed that with back-to-back bogeys on 17 and 18 to finish with a team-best 73 (+1). This is Fisher's third top 20 finish of the season, ending at 18th individually and +8 on the weekend.
Rylee Tucker was the next best for Carson-Newman on the day. The freshman made 15 pars with just three bogeys to record a three-over 75. This is Tucker's fifth round of the season in the 70s and her best 72-hole tournament score of her college career thus far. Also, this is her first top 20 finish, slotted at 14th place with a three-day total of +7.
Grace Lambert made a birdie on her second hole to kick her day off with a bang. Despite three bogeys on the 8th-10th holes, the England native carded a birdie on the par four 13th. A few bogeys down the stretch for Lambert ended her day with a 76 (+4). Her +16 three-day total landed her 45th among the field. This is Lambert's 8th round of the season in the 70s.
Picot's round of 78 (+6) was the final score to count for the Eagles on the final day. A birdie on the par-five 5th highlighted Picot's day; she was the only Eagle to birdie that hole today. Picot's three rounds in the 70s landed her +10 over the three days and 24th in the field.
Madison Miller rounded out the five rounds in the 70s with a 79 (+7). Miller made a birdie on the par four 8th to shoot 37 on the front and recorded a 42 on the back nine. Miller's +23 performance over the three days was good for a 65th-place finish.
"Was happy to see Emery work hard back from her first round to have a top 20 finish. Our freshman Rylee led the team for the week and made the top 15 finish look easy. She was calm and cool in the top seat. I was very proud of how she handled herself on the course, navigating it like a veteran," said Montgomery.
Carson-Newman has one more tournament left in the fall season. They will head to the LeeAnn Noble Memorial tournament in Dahlonega, Georgia, on October 13th-14th.
