JEFFERSON CITY - The Carson-Newman baseball team will begin the 2009 season ranked tied for 34th in the nation, according to the Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Preseason Poll, released earlier this week.
The Eagles received 86 total votes, the same number as Florida Tech.
Defending national champion Mount Olive is ranked first in the poll, followed by Tampa, Central Missouri, UC San Diego and Columbus State. Southern Arkansas, Cal. St. Chico, Emporia State, Ouachita Baptists and USC Aiken round out the top ten.
Two other South Atlantic Conference schools made the rankings - Tusculum is No.22 and Catawba is No.29.
The Eagles are coming off a 43-18 season in 2008, in which they advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament and went 2-2.
Carson-Newman will open the 2009 season on February 1, as they travel to Georgia for a three-game series against Augusta State.
The Eagles' first home series will be the weekend of February 14 against Northern Kentucky.
